Mr. Hickerson was born August 1, 1921 near Roby, the son of John and Lettie (Bates) Hickerson. In 1925 his family moved from Fisher County to the Old Hickerson farm near Belton in the Armstrong Community.

He attended Armstrong Community and graduated from Academy High School in 1938. In 1940 he joined the CCC Camp at Bartlett serving there and in Pioche, Nevada for two years. He was drafted into the U. S. Army in October 1942 and was discharged in January 1946. While in the Army he was involved in the invasion of Leyte and Okinawa.

After the Army he went to work for Civil Service at Ft. Hood for a short time before working for the Veterans Administration in Dallas and Denver, Colorado. While in Denver he met Clarice Youngblood. They married October 8, 1955 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. They made their home in Belton and he worked again for Civil Service at Ft. Hood retiring in 1986.

He was a member of Miller Heights Baptist Church serving as a deacon. He also took care of the grounds at the church for many years.

Mr. Hickerson was preceded in death by his wife in 2009.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law Randy and Melissa Hickerson of Lorena; two granddaughters and sons-in-law Abby Neal and husband Jeremy of Hewitt and Sally Whitaker and husband Brian of Fairfield, one sister June Burton of Temple; three great grandchildren Jolee Neal, Isaac Neal and Brant Whitaker and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
