Passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2015, at age 67, at his home in Olney.  Born October 15, 1947, in Washington, D.C., to the late Robert S. Murphy and the late Betty A. Murphy, Johnny grew up in the Aspen Hill area of Rockville, Maryland.  After attending RobertE. Peary High School, he joined the Army’s 173rd Airborne Brigade serving a tour in Vietnam during 1968-1969.  Johnny resided in Bethesda, Maryland, until moving to Ft. Lauderdale in 1989 with his long-time companion, the late Peggy Witt.  He returned to Maryland in 2011 to be closer to family and friends.  Johnny was a life-long Redskins fan, professional boxing enthusiast, and a proud Veteran.  He had a flare for making anyone laugh no matter what the situation.  We will sorely miss his smile, his laugh, his loyalty to family and friends, and his unique sense of humor.

Johnny is survived by his devoted sisters Phyllis Murphy, Cristine (Gary) Long, Patricia (Rusty) Minnick; loving nieces and nephews Michael, Jaclyn, Amy, Douglas, Kyle, Amber, and Kellie; grand nieces and nephews Rylee, Maddex, Ryan and Baby Girl R; many family members and friends; and his beloved pet.
