John Stastny, 85, of Bristol, was born in Simsbury on July 1, 1921 to the late Frank and Viola Stastny. He died peacefully June 11, 2007 at the Bristol Hospital. He was pre-deceased by his son John Stastny, Jr. who died during the Vietnam War.
Ssgt. John Stastny was a distinguished veteran of the second World War. He served in the U.S. Air Corp as a B-17 tail gunner. He was awarded the air medal (2 oak leaf clusters), purple heart, prisoner of war medal (13 month’s in Stalag 17), Distinguished Flying Cross, and a Bronze Star. Shortly after the war he joined the Bristol Fire Department. Lt.
