John Sowa, age 103, of 38 Charter Oak Ave., East Haven died peacefully at home Nov. 22, 2009 surrounded by his caring wife and devoted son and daughter in law. He was the husband for almost 71 years of Mary Husak Sowa. Mr. Sowa was born July 11, 1906 in Ostriv, Western Ukraine. He came to this country in 1948 and worked for Yale University for 15 years until his retirement in 1971. During that time, he was the personal gardener for the late Yale President, Kingman Brewster Jr.
