DURHAM- Mr. John Hoyt Ryder, Sr., 84, passed away on Friday, January 8, 2021.
Mr. Ryder was born on July 15, 1936 to the late Wilburn and Margaret Ryder in Morristown, TN, and grew up in Jefferson City, TN. After high school he attended Carson Newman College. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy on the USS Pompon submarine. John was employed at IBM for 33 years. John and Paige were charter members of Page Road Baptist Church, and John was also a charter member of the Lynn’s Cross Roads Ruritan Club and volunteered at Duke Heart Center for 28 years. He was a devoted and fantastic husband and was married for 61 years. John will be lovingly remembered by all blessed to have known him.
Mr. Ryder is survived by his wife, Paige Dunnavant Ryder; son, John H. Ryder, Jr. of Cary, NC; daughter, Ann Louise Ryder of Durham, NC; brother, Nicholas Grafton Ryder; grandchildren, Dustin Robert Ryder, Amary Lauren Ryder, and John David Ryder (Courtney); and great-grandchildren, Jaxson Wayne Ryder and his pride and joy, Lillian June Ryder.
