John Rogers, 93, of Greenwood, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2018. He was born August 9, 1924 to the late Vernie and Helen (Hochstrasser) Rogers of Lafayette, IN.
He graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School. After two semesters at Purdue University, he enlisted in the Army Air Corp. He finished B-17 training and moved on to the B-29 Super Fortress where he became the co-pilot for the crew of Omaha One More Time. He flew a total of 33 missions including five fire bomb raids in the Pacific Theater in the 504th bomb group. After the service, John finished his studies at Purdue University of Chemical Engineering. He worked for Phillips Petroleum in Borger, Texas and Kansas City, Kansas. He also assisted in the building of a Phenol Formaldehyde plant for Reichold Chemicals in Kansas City. In 1965, he moved back to Indiana. In 1968, he and his wife purchased the Wishing Well Motel in Whiteland, IN. He retired in 1983, and then moved to Greenwood.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 252, the VFW, a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, and a member of the Greenwood United Methodist Church.
John was preceded in death by his two sisters; Marian E. Rogers, and Marjorie Korn; son, Lee E.; and granddaughter Correlle.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Juanita of Greenwood; son Steven (wife, Janna) of Kokomo; three grandsons, William of Greenwood, David of Indianapolis, and Andrew of Kokomo; and a granddaughter, Nichole of Kokomo.
