Hagerstown ,MD – John Roger Carroll Roberts, 87, of Hagerstown, MD passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2023, at the home of his son.

 

He was born in Hancock, MD on September 7, 1935, to the late Walter Earl and Lillian Mildred Munson Roberts.

 

John was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen (Wiles) Roberts on November 19, 2022.  They were married on August 27, 1962.

 

He attended various schools in Washington County Maryland.

 

John was employed by Hagerstown Junior College as a Custodian in Hagerstown, MD until his retirement.  He worked other various jobs as a young man alongside other family members on local produce farms.

 

He was a Christian man who loved reading his bible and often quoted scripture. 

 

Dad loved to hunt and fish.  He enjoyed working on and driving classic cars, especially his 1957 Chevrolet.  He loved traveling to Ocean City and other favorite destinations with his family.  One of his most memorable trips was cross country to Colorado with his son Kevin.  He loved watching movies, especially Westerns, playing the guitar and singing.  Even in his late 70’s he enjoyed riding his bike long distances

to spend time with his family.  He was a generous man often picking up little gifts for his grandkids.

 

He is survived by his daughter Charlene M. Kline and her husband Ronald of Clear Spring, MD; son John W. Roberts of Clear Spring, MD; son Richard C. Roberts and his wife Wanda of Clear Spring, MD; son Kevin R. Roberts and his wife Kimberly of Williamsport, MD; sisters Rose Roberts, Virginia Roberts Stallings, Delores Roberts Walling, Genetta Roberts Semler, Violet Roberts Cooper, Leila Roberts Shatzer, Gwen Roberts, Joyce Roberts Holder, Lorna Roberts, Laurel June Roberts Shoemaker; brothers Owen Allen Roberts and Dan Roberts; grandchildren Crystal Roberts, Eric Roberts, Bruce Roberts (Susan), Jennifer Roberts, Derrick Roberts (Chelsea), Destinee Kline (Doug), Amelia Shifflett (Ryan), and Jocelynn Roberts; great grandchildren Chase, Grace, Gabriella, Fletcher, Henry, and Charlotte; as well as other great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

 

He was predeceased by a grandson Joshua Roberts; sister Winnie Roberts Brawner; brothers James William Roberts, Walter R. Roberts, Jerry Roberts, Roland Roberts, and Ed Roberts.
