The family of John Robert “Bob” Corbin, 97, announce his passing on December 20, 2021. He was born on April 20, 1924 in Clay County, Indiana to Herbert and Desta (Coble) Corbin and in recent years resided in New Whiteland, Indiana.

He is survived by his son, Robin L. Corbin, and Robin’s wife, Kathleen (Reavis) Corbin, grandsons Lieutenant Commander Ryan L. Corbin and Travis C. Corbin, sister Dorisann (Corbin) Albright, sister-in-law Betty (Dayhuff) Corbin, and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

He married the love of his life, Mary Jean Dayhuff, on July 11, 1948. They spent 71 wonderful years together and she preceded him in death on October 15, 2019. Additionally, he was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Marvin Corbin and Joseph Corbin, and his sisters, Erma (Corbin) Kirkling and Rosemary (Corbin) Dierdorf.

He graduated from Cory High School and was proud be a point guard on the Cory Apple Boys basketball team that played in the final Wabash Valley Championship Game. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on March 3, 1943. During WWII he served as a Yeoman First Class on the U.S.S. Whitman (DE 24). He served in the military for 33 years including time in the Navy Reserve and Indiana Air National Guard. His affiliations included the National Chief Petty Officers Assn., Naval Enlisted Reserve Assn., V.F.W. (Life Member), American Legion, Retired Enlisted Assn., Fleet Reserve Assn., and the Destroyer Escort Sailors Assn.

He was self-employed as a Nationwide Insurance agent and a district sales manager for a total of 27 years.
