John passed away at the age of 90. Born in Muncie, IN, he was the son of Robert Benbow and Thelma Ruth Parr Benbow. After graduation from Indiana University School of Business in 1954, followed by two years in the US Air Force, he joined Indiana National Bank of Indianapolis to begin his long career as a banker. In 1977, he moved his family to Miami to continue his banking career in executive positions at Barnett Bank of Miami and Florida National Bank. He became a building contractor after retiring from banking.
He was married for 44 years to Marilyn (Alhand), who passed away in 2002. Survivors include his children, Karen (Kevin) McConkey, Boring, OR; Susie (Ernie) Fernandez, Miami, FL; Julie (Brad) Seligman, Waxhaw, NC; three grandchildren: Michelle Fernandez, Michael (Emily) Fernandez and Aidan Seligman; his brother Ronald Benbow, Muncie, IN and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was also preceded in death by his parents and siblings Sue Stamper, Barbara Benbow, Louise Benbow and Duane Benbow.
