John Richard Morris, 80, passed away Saturday May 31, 2014 in Franklin. He was a resident of Franklin and formerly of New Whiteland and Indianapolis.
John’s family originally came from Luxembourg. His grandfather, John E. Morris, was a well known doctor in Indianapolis and that is who Morris street in Indianapolis is named after. John’s mother’s family were wonderful carpenters and they are responsible for the beautiful woodworking seen in the Indianapolis Scottish Rite Cathedral and other landmarks in the city from that same era. John was the only child of Marvin R. and Marie (Thoman) Morris. His father was a Vice-President with American Fetcher National Bank in Indianapolis.
John followed in his father’s footsteps in banking, after getting some college experience, he later worked as an insurance adjuster. He started his own construction company with his sons’ assisting for many years. They gained valuable experience under his leadership and became well-versed handy-men themselves. John was very proud of his sons and their accomplishments. During his early college years, John was a state ranked roller skating dancer, who won many tournaments with his partner. He loved coffee and talking with friends. John could talk for hours about his escapades, or politics or world policy and his own ideas about life. He was fiercely private, very proud and independent. He had a soft spot for animals, especially his cats.
Survivors include, his two children, Judi Greene of St.Louis, MO. and Joseph (Becky) Morris of The Colony, Dallas, Texas and six grandchildren, Stacia Soysal, Sarah Greene, Samantha Greene, Alex Greene, Jason Morris and Abby Morris, and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Jay Morris.
