Mr. John Ray Roberson, age 80 of Sanford, NC transitioned into eternal rest on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at his residence.

John R. Roberson was born March 8, 1943, in Lee County and transitioned into eternal rest, Tuesday, April 5, 2023. He was the son of the late Lewis and Gladys Roberson. John was married twice; his second wife Laura Roberson preceded him in death in 2018.

In 1957, John, his brother Donnie, and a few friends formed the Rock & His Combo band. John was the lead guitarist. Performing rock ‘n’ roll and R&B, the band debuted at a Lee County elementary school talent show. The band quickly gained popularity and eventually performed throughout Sanford.

John graduated from W.B. Wicker High School, class of 1961. After graduating high school, John worked at the Saco Lowell plant for several years before moving to Brooklyn, NY in 1968. In Brooklyn, he worked for Abraham and Strauss where he quickly excelled and moved into management. John enjoyed watching TV and movies, listening to music, singing, and playing the guitar. A fried chicken connoisseur, he liked Popeyes and KFC, but Bojangles was his absolute favorite.

John leaves to cherish his memories: children, Sean Roberson, Ralanda Benjamin, and Cassandra Judd; grandchildren,  Kayla Roberson, Lauren Benjamin, Krissaundra Judd Thorns, Luther Benjamin III, and Saquan Judd; great-grandchildren, Luther Benjamin IV, Tiana Robinson, Tyler Thompson, Kaira Baker, Timothy Clark, Tyler Judd, Amayah Judd, and Anaiyah Judd; siblings, Tinie Myles, Donnie Roberson, Helena Palmer, Otis Spruiell, and Joann Currie; in-laws, Adrianne Roberson, James Myles, Wilhelmina Roberson, Raynard Palmer, Cynthia Spruiell and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
