John “Jack” R. Metzger, age 91, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away peacefully on May 7th, 2022 from natural causes.

Jack was born to Richard and Hazel Metzger on November 20th, 1930 in Elgin, IL.  He was married to Carol “Tilly” Metzger on March 8th, 1952 and the two celebrated 70 beautiful years of marriage.  Jack served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953 and, after returning home, he worked for Home Hardware in Illinois.

Jack and Carol then followed their dream of a more simple life and moved to Wisconsin where they built and owned Singing Wheels Campground.  Jack ran Singing Wheels for many, happy years and was known for adding his personal, artistic touch to every building and sign.

Eventually, Jack and Carol sold the campground and spent years traveling across the United States in their motor home before settling in Wisconsin Rapids.

Jack was a talented artist and musician.  He played the stand up bass with his family’s band, The Family Aires, and painted countless scenes of the places that he visited and dreamed of.   He filled the lives of all that he knew with beauty, creativity and laughter.

Jack is survived by his wife, Carol Metzger, son, John (Dawn) Metzger Jr., daughter, Jarol (Chris) Newlin, his six grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Marge Smith (George); his brother, Gene Frisk; and his daughter Nancy Evans.
