John Edwin Pierce, 73, passed away December 22, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family in Mimbres NM, where he has resided for 43 years.
John was born August 20, 1942 in Deming, New Mexico to Rile Edward Pierce and Irene Omega Pruitt. He grew up in Hurley, NM and was the oldest son of six brothers and sisters, Pauline, Charlene, Vivian, Sharon, Leslie, and Rile. He graduated from Cobre High School, and then later attended New Mexico State University, at Carlsbad where he received a certificate in welding.
In 1966 John meet the love of his life Jeanne Louise Weir and the two were married in Berino, NM for 50 years. John served with the 539th Transportation and Aviation General Support Group in Vietnam from June 22, 1967 to June 30, 1968 as an airframe repairman and sheet metal technician. John obtained his rank of Spec 5 and received the National Defense Service Metal, Vietnam Service Metal, Good Conduct Service Metal, and was appointed honorary Colonel Aide de Camp on the staff of Governor David Cargo. John was a very proud veteran and took pride in serving his country.
After returning from serving his country, John worked for the forest service and later became a professional Boiler Maker Welder. He also had many other jobs in the mining industry. John also enjoyed welding for friends in the Mimbres Valley. John’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, horseback riding and packing, playing guitars with his brothers and friends, farming, and restoring old farm tractors.
John is survived by his wife Jeanne W. Pierce of Mimbres, NM, his daughter and son-in-law Robin and Rodney Stewart of Silver City, NM, his son Christopher Pierce of Las Cruces, NM, Pauline House, of Prosper, TX, Vivian Belt of Chaparral, NM, Leslie Pierce of Carlsbad, NM, Rile Pierce (Mary) of Silver City, NM, and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Edward and Irene Pierce, and Sisters Charlene House and Sharon Stockstill.
