John Paul Miles, 78, Alexandria, died May 20, 2009 at St. Johns Health System, after a brief illness. He was born May 15, 1931 in New Castle, the son of Earl and May Derrow Miles .
He was a 1949 graduate of Anderson High School, served in the United States Army. He attended Ball State University and retired from Guide Division of General Motors. He was also a scout for the Atlanta Braves Organization. John was a member of the First United Methodist Church, American Legion Post #127, where he served as a past Commander, Anderson Elks BPOE #209, Forty and Eight, and TPA.
John and wife, Carol, have dedicated over 21 years of tireless service to the Anderson “Hockett” American Legion Baseball team. For his efforts, John received the “Arlie Skelton Memorial Award”, which recognized his outstanding contributions made toward the success of American Legion Baseball in the State of Indiana. John currently served on the Indiana American Legion Baseball Executive Board. He is survived by his wife, Carol Clock Miles; son, John Thomas Miles and his children, Ryan, Hollie and Brittany; son, William Sheila Carey Miles of Louisville, KY and their children, Killian, Owain, and Aidan; and son, Kenny Miles of Indianapolis; Great grandchild; Tyler Ryan Miles. Sister, Betty Bailey of Fort Wayne; sisters-in-law, Pat G. Miles of Anderson, Joan Miles of San Diego, CA and Ann Clock of Homer, MI.
John is also survived by several nieces, nephews and many special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Billy Miles, Larry Miles and Bob Miles; and daughter, Cynthia Ann Miles.
