John Paul Dobek, 86, beloved husband, father & grandfather passed away Friday, August 5, 2016. Born in New Britain, in 1930, he remained a New Britain resident for most of his life. John was the son of the late Franciszek (Frank) Dobek and Stanislawa (Stella) Buchacz Dobek Lukaszewski. John was devoted to his wife of 50 years, Mary (Kwasnik) Dobek, who predeceased him in 2009. John worked at Fafnir Bearing in New Britain and Newington and was a past member of the Polish Falcons Nest 88 and the Spartans Vets A.C. He spent his retirement with his wife, his grandchildren, and following his favorite sports teams, UConn Women’s Basketball and the Detroit Tigers. A model of quiet perseverance, John was a dialysis patient for 17 years. He is survived by his daughter Maryanne (Dobek) Krajcik and her husband Jim Devoe of Granby; his grandchildren, Marissa (Krajcik) Grella and her husband Mark of Vernon; Jameson Krajcik of Granby; as well as his brother Stanley Dobek and his wife Millie of Middletown, and several nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his brother, Edmund, and sister, Sophie (Dobek) Kozlowski. John also leaves behind Isabel, a dear friend who brightened his life after entering assisted living. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Fresenius Dialysis of Newington, The Atrium of Rocky Hill, and Avery Heights for their compassion and support.
