John Panek passed away Thursday March 23rd 2017 at United Hospital Center in Clarksburg WV. He was the oldest son of the late Thaddeus and Margaret Panek. He was born in August 1940 in Chicago IL. and grew up in Arlington Heights, IL.
He was a graduate of Arlington Heights High School and the American Academy of Art in Chicago, IL. He was the owner/tuner of a BSA Gold Star racing motorcycle in the early 1960’s. His love of motorcycles and his painting of them made him well-known in the motorcycle world. In 2016 the State of West Virginia purchased one of his oil paintings titled “Shannon’s Back Yard” for the permanent WV art collection. Before moving to WV in 1995 he was in the Baldwin’s Company as the gunsmith in the Northwest Territory Alliance, a Revolutionary War Living History Organization.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Carl Panek, and sister Maria Panek.
He is survived by his wife Kathleen Panek of Shinnston, WV. and his children; Ronald (Amy) of Peoria, IL., Shelia Solarz of Woodstock, IL., John M. Panek of Sycamore, IL., Shannon (Steve) Donovan of Tipton, IA., Sheryl Panek of Chicago, IL., and Martin (Eve-Lisa) of Finland. His grandchildren Justin, and Jacob (Emily) Solarz, Kyleigh Geguzis, Grace Donovan, Cameron, Cecelia, Cierra, Grant, and Max Panek. His sister Susan Panek of Arkansas.
