John P. “Jack” Albrecht Sr., 72, of Elkhart, passed away Friday, July 31, at home.
He was born Oct. 25, 1942, in Brooklyn, New York City, to Paul L. and Rosemary (Flynn) Albrecht.
Surviving are his wife of 18 years, J. Katherine (Harrison) Albrecht; two children, John P. Albrecht Jr. and Bridget Albrecht Faus, both of Elkhart; three stepchildren, Ammie (Robby Elsasser) Harrison, Jennifer (Shawn) Wood and Joetta Gilbert, all of Elkhart; two sisters, Rosemary (Steven) Krull and Joan (James) Hamilton, both of Elkhart; three brothers, Paul (Maggie) Albrecht of Goshen, Mark (Kara) Albrecht of Elkhart and Marty (Chris) Albrecht of Bybee, Tenn.; and six grandchildren, Christopher, Casey, Tanner, Ashley, Bryce and Raylee.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Robert J. “Bobby” Albrecht.
Jack graduated from Indiana University South Bend in 1982 and received an associate degree. While attending school, he was on the dean’s list and the Who’s Who in College and University List.
He was employed with Miles Laboratory/Bayer for 38 years prior to his retirement in 2004.
Jack was a member of the Steel Workers Union for 38 years and served as former union president. Additionally, he was member of the AFLCIO, Fraternal Order of Moose Lodge 599, American Legion Post 318, Knights of Columbus and the Elkhart County Democratic Club.
He was an avid NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt Sr. dynasty fan. He loved Notre Dame football and anything to do with President John Kennedy.
