John Oliver Garner, 94, of Taneytown, Maryland died peacefully Monday, March 23, 2015 at the Lorien Center in Taneytown.  Born November 22, 1920 in Taneytown, he was the son of the late Roy and Blanche (Buffington) Garner.  He was the husband of the late Ida Pauline (Hofe) Garner, to whom he was married for 52 years.

John was employed with the Carroll County Public School System as a custodian for 18 years.  He also worked for Cambridge Rubber Company in Taneytown and was a sales representative for the Model Steam Bakery in Taneytown, serving the Pennsylvania area for over 16 years. He was a member of Grace United Church of Christ in Taneytown.  John was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army.  He was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, the European Theater of Operations Ribbon, and a Purple Heart.

Surviving are son, Michael Garner and wife Jennifer of Westminster; grandchildren, Richard Garner and fiancée Sarah Parsley of Delaware, and Elizabeth (Garner) Drummond and husband Scott of Bowie.  He was predeceased by brothers, Fred, Donald, and Eugene Garner.
