Mr. John Abraham, affectionately known as Johnykutty to friends, Daddy and Appa to his children and grandchildren, was born on January 15, 1959, in Nilambur, Kerala, India. He was the fifth of seven children to his beloved parents, Muthirakalayil Mathai Abraham and Deena Abraham. He married the love of his life, Ani Abraham, on October 12, 1989, and they were blessed with two amazing children, Merlin Maguire and Dr. Toby M. Abraham.
Despite growing up in a small village, he knew he wanted to travel the world when he grew up. His desire for wanderlust led him and his family to live in over a dozen cities across three continents. He lived in Kerala, India; Queensland and Melbourne, Australia; Oklahoma, New York, and Texas, USA. With Ani as his faithful and loving companion, he and his family packed in a lifetime of cultural experiences and memories around the globe. In 2004, they made their home in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where Johnykutty spent his remaining days.
Johnykutty was a man of many talents and interests. He could play chess for hours (and usually won) and enjoyed a game of tennis, even as his cancer progressed to the advanced stages. This driven and competitive nature was passed on to his children. He loved Christ and sought to deepen his knowledge of the Bible by pursuing and attaining a Bachelor in Theology through the Oklahoma School of Theology along with his beloved traveling companion and wife, Ani. He was a deep thinker and a voracious reader. He will be terribly missed by his nieces and nephews who remember his exhortations and words of encouragement.
Our beloved Johnykutty entered the Lord’s presence on Thursday, September 9, 2021, at the age of 62. He is preceded in death by his father, Muthirakalayil Abraham, mother Deena Abraham, and brother Mathew Abraham. He is survived by his wife, Ani Abraham; two children, daughter Merlin Maguire and her husband William Maguire, and son Dr. Toby M. Abraham; and is blessed with two grandchildren: Owen Maguire and Quinn Maguire. He is also survived by his siblings Rev. Philip M. Abraham, Thomas Abraham, Annamma Abraham, Mary Sam, Jose Abraham, and their families.
Cancer may have taken his physical body, but we have the blessed hope that his soul is resting with the Lord and that we will meet again.
