John Westley Murphy 72 of Clinton formerly of Delway, was born on November 01,1948 in Clinton, NC to the late John Henry Murphy and Mae Haley Murphy. On Friday afternoon August 13th, 2021, John entered into eternal rest at his home surrounded by loved ones.
John received his education from Sampson County Schools. After high school he labored in various jobs around the surrounding counties. John lived a full life and was known for his smile and willingness to help others. He never met a stranger and his home and heart were always full of love. He was preceded in death by his wife: Maggie Robinson Murphy; son: Johnnie Ray Merritt, sister, Emily Mae Murphy Dowe and brother, Rudolph Murphy.
John is survived by his two brothers, John Akins, Ivanhoe, NC; Charlie Murphy, Leland, NC, grandson, Malcom Carter of Rose Hill ; grand-daughter, Maya Merritt, Durham, NC; brother in law, Irving Dowe Jr, Leland, NC , special nephew, Devon Tymir Spencer, Clinton, NC and a special cousin, Ella Mathis, Delway, NC. A host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends whom he loved and they loved him.
