John Mitaly, 91, of Norwalk, died Sunday, April 10th at Yale-New Haven Hospital after a lengthy illness. John was born in Norwalk on February 8, 1920, son of the late Andrew and Elizabeth (Anthol) Mitaly, and has been a lifelong resident. He was the owner of John Mitaly Electric for 20 years. He also served as a First Class Petty Officer in the U.S. Naval Air Force during World War II as an Aviation Machinist Mate First Class on a PBY Aircraft. He spent six years serving our country, 22 months of which were spent in the South Pacific. John was an avid boater, fisherman and hunter.

John is survived by, and will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 65 years Helen (Hennessy) Mitaly. Also surviving are his children John Mitaly of Easton and his wife Kathleen, Scott Mitaly of Milford and his wife Barbara, and Marianne Pote-Hass of Bloomingburg, NY, three grandchildren, Kimberly Mulas and her husband GianCarlo, Jeffrey Pote and Michael Mitaly, three great granddaughters Isabella, Kylee and Sofia. He is also survived by his sister Julia Barnum and several nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his grandson Mathew and his son-in-law Hyman Hass, his two brothers Andrew and Michael, and three sisters, Elizabeth Lord, Anne Schemare and Pauline Bodick.
