John Micheli, 75, died Saturday, March 23, 2019 surrounded by his family at his home in Dalzell.
John was born on January 18, 1944 in Spring Valley to John and Mary (Magnani) Micheli. He was a graduate of Hall High School and later Bradley University where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. Upon graduating from Bradley, he received his professional engineering license from the State of Illinois. He worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation, District 3, Ottawa, for nearing 31 years, retiring in May 2001.
John had many accolades and accomplishments in his long career, most notably, engineer of the year in 1998. John was also very involved in his community. He served as Trustee for St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Dalzell in addition to serving on the Dalzell Village Board.
John was a long time building inspector for the Village of Dalzell and a former building inspector for the City of Peru. John also had a lifelong love for St. Bede Academy, where he was a member of the school board. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus.
John was a man of Catholic faith and loved serving the Lord. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Peru and Sts. Peter and Paul the Apostles Catholic Church in Bradenton, FL. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, enjoyed working in his garden and most importantly being a fulltime Grandpa. His friends and family knew him best as a professional handyman. There was simply no tool he didn’t own, not one thing he couldn’t fix and not one person he wouldn’t help.
John married Linda Mersch on September 25, 1971 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in LaSalle. John and Linda have been happily married for nearly 48 years. They were blessed with three loving children which will forever be John’s greatest legacy.
John is survived by his wife, Linda; three children, Maureen (Mike) Mulligan of Arlington Heights, Kevin (Stacy) Micheli of Palatine and Darrell (Dana) Micheli of Oswego; eight grandchildren, Brady, Callie, Mallory, Riely, Carter Joseph, Carter David, Gavin and Avery and a sister, Josephine Weberski of Dalzell. John was preceded in death by his parents.
