John Ty McClain of Temple, TX passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Weston Inn Health and Rehabilitation at the age of 73. John Ty was born in Temple, TX at King’s Daughters Hospital on November 8, 1943 to the late Arthur James and Florene Payne McClain.
He grew up in Temple, TX on the family farm while attending first through ninth grade in Troy ISD and finished out as a Temple Wildcat playing his two favorite sports, football and baseball. Following graduation, John Ty married his high school sweetheart, Johnnie Ruth Uptain of Belton, on January 5, 1962 at the First United Methodist Church in Belton, TX. He later went on to earn a degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1966. He became a loyal and valued employee of General Foods/Kraft.
As an expert in his field of engineering, Mr. McClain was awarded the honor of representing the company by traveling to places around the world including England, Germany, Canada, California, and New York to help facilitate other companies. After he retired at 55, Mr. McClain continued as a consultant for Kraft. John Ty enjoyed spending time hunting, welding, reading (especially history related books), playing guitar, and telling vivid stories of years past to his grandchildren and great grandchildren who knew and loved him as “Pop”.
John Ty is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur James and Florene Payne McClain, sister Margaret Sue McClain, and brother Terry Lee McClain. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 55 years, Johnnie Ruth, daughter Debbie Knight and husband Joe, son Todd McClain and wife Sharon, sister Cindy Matl and husband Jerry, grandchildren Brandon Knight and wife Sarah, Brandi Floyd and husband Kevin, Bradley Knight, Wyatt McClain, and great grandchildren Rubie Knight and Karli Floyd.
