John M. Savoie, 92, of Jacksonville died Tuesday, February 12, 2008, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
He was born January 27, 1916, in Naples, the son of Archie Eli and Mabel Howard Savoie. He married Louise Dufelmeier on March 9, 1942, and she survives.
He is also survived by three daughters, Theresa Ann Savoie of Jacksonville, Virginia May Savoie (husband, Jim) Braxler of Wisconsin Rapids, WI., and Mary Ellen Savoie (husband, Jim) Robbins of Troutdale, Oregon; two grandchildren, John Joseph Braxler of Springfield, WI., and Susan Braxler (husband, Avery) Cox of Goose Lake, Iowa; and two great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Carolyn Savoie; one brother, Howard C. Savoie; and one sister, Helen Savoie Roeder.
Mr. Savoie graduated from Winchester High School. He then attended Diesel Engineering School in Memphis, TN. During World War II, he worked as an electrician at the shipyards in Orange, Texas. He then worked for many years at the Jacksonville Power Plant until his retirement. Following his retirement, he spent several summers as Chief Engineer on the SS Admiral in St. Louis. Mr. Savoie was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church in Jacksonville. He had also been a member of Jacksonville Lions Club, and served as a District Governor. As a younger man, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
