Mr. J. Littleton Glover, 89, of Woodbine Circle, Newnan, Ga., died Wednesday, June 28, 2000 at his residence. Mr. Glover was born April 6, 1911 at 45 College Street, Newnan, to Fannie Virginia Jones Glover and Howard Clarke Glover. A partner in the law firm of Glover and Davis in Newnan, he began his law practice in Newnan in June 1935 after graduating from the University of Georgia School of Law. Mr. Glover’s counsel included both business and legal matters.

He served as president of the local county and circuit Bar associations and was also a member of the Board of Governors of the Georgia Bar Association, later the State Bar of Georgia. He served as director of various businesses including Newnan Cotton Mills, Manufacturer’s National Bank of Newnan (later First National Bank in Newnan), Newnan Federal Savings and Loan Association (later First Citizens Bank), Batson-Cook Company, West Point Foundry and Machine Company, The Piedmont Hotel Company, Parrott Properties Inc. and Newnan Industries Inc. He served as chairman of the Boards of Manufacturer’s National Bank, Newnan Federal Savings and Loan and Newnan Industries.

Active in the community, he served on the Newnan Water and Light Commission, the governing board of what is now Newnan Utilities, during the 1970’s and 80’s when the utility capacities of the system were greatly expanded in order to provide for the future growth of the community. He was active in a number of civic clubs, serving as president of Newnan Rotary Club, Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce, Newnan Country Club, Newnan-Coweta United Way and the Newnan Chapter of the American Red Cross. He served for many years on the Newnan Board of Education and was instrumental in the development and construction of the present Newnan High School campus on LaGrange Street. He was a life-long member of Central Baptist Church and was a trustee for many years. For 65 years he served as General Counsel to what is now the Georgia Baptist Children’s Homes and Family Ministries Inc., also serving as a trustee and member of the executive committee from time to time.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. J. Littleton Glover of Newnan, Ga.; sons, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace M. Glover of Newnan and J. Littleton Glover Jr. of Newnan; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Nathaniel B. Glover of Newnan, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Clark Glover of West Point, Ga., Dr. and Mrs. Howard C. Glover Jr. of Newnan; sister, Mrs. Winifred Glover Klein of Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren, Bingham R. Glover, Kelly Carter Glover, Michael Hanson Glover, J. Littleton Glover III and Wallace Miller Glover Jr. .
