John married his high school sweetheart, Sue Runyans, and enjoyed life with Sue until her passing in 1996. John is survived by his current wife of nine years, Johnnie Howell. John also leaves behind a daughter, Susan Hare (Jimmy), a son Rick Howell (Wendy), grandchildren Eric Hare (Nichole), Katie Rutledge (Henry), Jessica Howell, Emily Howell, great grandchild Lilly Hare, step-daugther Allison Wambels, step-grandson Jackson Wambels, and a beloved brother Bob Howell (Arlene) and sister Janice Smith (Frank). John was a successful business owner and enjoyed baseball and Alabama football.
