April 10, 1945 – August 31, 2017

John Lea Pugh was born in Del Rio, Texas on April 10, 1945 and died peacefully in the morning hours of August 31, 2017 in Boerne, Texas.   Lea died of heart failure after a courageous battle over several years.

Lea was predeceased by his parents, John B. and Sybil Jean Pugh, his sister Dianne Jean Pugh, his grandparents, Lea and Myrtis (Nanny and Pal) Jordan, Oren Lamar Pugh and Eulalie Pugh.   Lea is survived by his brother, R. Wayne Pugh of Baton Rouge, several cousins, nieces and nephews, and his ex-wife, Noel Adams.

Lea lived life large and he never met a stranger.  He grew up with “hot rods” including an antique Dodge truck with a Corvette engine and riding his motorcycle. He loved his horses and pets. He enjoyed SCUBA diving, spending time on Grand Isle, Louisiana and Destin, Florida.  Lea was an avid photographer, taking courses with CC Lockwood.  He compiled an extensive record collection, concentrating on popular artists of the ’60s and ’70s.  He was a classic movie buff and collector, especially of anything related to WWII and B-25s, which his father flew.

Lea attended Southeastern University and graduated from LSU in Baton Rouge.  His professional life included working in the family real estate firm, Dean and Pugh.  He also worked at Steel Buildings, Inc., and the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Dept.  Lea owned a seafood business based on Grand Isle, Louisiana.

Lea was cherished by his many friends and will be missed.   Lea’s preferred charity was St Jude’s Children’s Hospital; “… for the benefit of the children…”.    In keeping with his wishes, any remembrance considered should be made to St. Jude’s Hospital.
