John L. Hadden, 91, of Jacksonville, IL died Sunday, September 18, 2011 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.

He was born September 26, 1919 in Morgan County, IL; the son of William G. and Lois R. Hayden Hadden. He married Jeanette Braner on February 7, 1942 at Ebenezer United Methodist Church in rural Jacksonville and she survives.

He is also survived by three grandchildren, Matthew Hadden (wife, Laura) of Burlington, IA, Rebecca Hadden of Chicago, and Phillip Hadden of Jacksonville; two great grandchildren, Nicholas and Michael Hadden of Burlington, IA; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, John Ronald Hadden (surviving wife, Judy of Jacksonville) and a sister, Irene Edwards.

Mr. Hadden was a 1937 graduate of Jacksonville High School. He was employed as a truck driver for the State of Illinois and later farmed in rural Jacksonville. Along with his partner George Thayer, he established T & H Farm Supply in Jacksonville. He later acquired his partner’s interest and operated the firm for 35 years, retiring in 1990.

A member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, John served as a certified lay speaker for many years including 15 years of service as lay pastor for Asbury United Methodist Church in rural Jacksonville. From 1970 to 1990, he served as the Lay Witness Mission Coordinator for the United Methodist Church. He was active in Athenia Toastmasters Club for 10 years, served as treasurer of Ebenezer Cemetery Association for 30 years, and was a volunteer with the Gideon Bible Association for a number of years.
