John L. Gain, 80, of Jacksonville, died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017, at Lavender Ridge in Jacksonville.

He was born Mar. 16, 1937, in Belleville, the son of Edward Regis and Marie Wanda Walters Gain. He married Jean Hedden in 1975 in Jacksonville, and she survives.

He is also survived by one daughter, Laurie Gain Marchiando of Tucson, AZ; one son, Larry Gain of Ashland; one stepson, Bruce (Debbie) Hedden of Mt. Sterling; two step-daughters, Connie (Tom) Langan of Mt. Sterling and Pat Buss of Clayton; ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and two brothers and two sisters, Edward (Betty) Gain of Smithton, Marie Marteney of San Marino, CA, Ernestine Stroud of Columbia, SC, and Luther (Bonnie) Gain of Jacksonville. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jeff L. Gain; one grandson, Jason Hedden; one sister, Chrystal Herbstreith; and one brother, William Gain.

Mr. Gain was a masonry contractor in Jacksonville for many years. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was an avid outdoorsman. John and Jean loved to travel. He was always kind, loved people, and never met a stranger.
