John L. Crowley, age 78, died peacefully on July 14, 2021.

Born on July 28, 1942 at Methodist Hospital to Orville W. and Helen V. Crowley. A life-long resident of Des Moines, he graduated from Roosevelt High School and attended Parsons College and Drake University. He met his wife of 56 years, Mary (Candy), when she walked by his house on Polk Blvd on her way home from work. They were married at St. Augustin’s Church September 5, 1964.

John was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church. He was a lifelong Cyclone fan and loyal ticket holder, even through many lean seasons. He loved to watch sports, read books, and truly enjoyed hearing good jokes (and sometimes managed to spoil the punchline) at Halloween.

He was a member of the Izaak Walton League, a former board member and President for Raccoon Valley Little League, and served on his town home association board.
He lived in the house he grew up in for 62 years. He was a very social person and kept in contact with people in the neighborhood. He was like the neighborhood watch before there was such a thing. His social ways continued at the town home as he was one of the first to welcome new people to the neighborhood.

John is survived by his wife, Mary Crowley; children Jason Crowley (Laura) of Urbandale, Megan Wick (Alex) of Clive; grandchildren Katherine, Andrew, Drake, Izzy, Molly, Zane, Johnny; sister Claire Ahart of Cedar Rapids; sister-in-law Janet Knight (Glen) of Coon Rapids, IA and many nieces and nephews.
