John H. Koffman of Moberly went home to the Lord on November 20, 2017.  He was born in St. Louis, Missouri on July 14, 1931, the eldest son of Charles and Ruth (Hassell) Koffman.  He attended High School at Roosevelt High School in St. Louis and then went on to obtain a degree from Northwest Missouri State University where he was a member of the Bearcat Varsity Basketball Team.

In 1952, John married Carolyn Jane Canon in Maryville, MO.  They have 4 children, 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

John began his career as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and partner at Hardin, Cummins and Moss in Maryville, MO in 1956.  He then moved to Moberly starting his own practice in 1959. He retired in 2012.

John was a life-time member of the Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants since 1956 where he served on the Board of Directors from 1975 to 1981 and President from 1980 to 1981.  He was a member of the American Institute of CPA’s, where he served as Chairman from 1975 to 1982 and was on the Advisory Board School of Accountancy at the University of Missouri from 1978 to 1987.  John also served on the Committee for Political Action for the Certified Public Accountancy Board of Trustees from 1978 to 1990, being Chairman for several years.

Civic activities and organizations were important to John.  He was a member of the Moberly Rotary Club from 1956, the Moberly Area Chamber of Commerce from 1959 serving on the Board of Directors for 3 years, the Moberly Area Junior College Foundation Board of Directors, and President of the Moberly Country Club.  John also served on the Missouri Council on Criminal Justice, the Missouri Appellate Judicial Commission, and the Coordinating Board for Higher Education. John was very proud of his service to the Missouri Baptist Children’s Home where he served on the Board for 11 years. He was a founder, President, and Board member of the Northwest Missouri University Foundation.

John received numerous awards including twice being named the Max Myers Distinguished Service recipient by the Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants; the Northwest Missouri State University Distinguished Alumni Award twice and the Northwest Missouri State University Turret Award. He was also awarded him the Outstanding Missourian for 2012. John was active in Republican politics at the local, state and national level. He also served as a Deacon of the First Baptist Church of Moberly.

John is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Carolyn; his children Robert L. Koffman and wife Doris of Sedalia, MO; John P. Koffman and wife Julee of Casper, Wyoming; Jennifer L. Robinett and husband Eugene of Springfield, MO; and William W. Koffman of Moberly.  He also leaves a sister Janette Wager of Allantown Pennsylvania.  John also is survived by his beloved grandchildren Emily Claunch and husband Donnie; Loren Koffman and wife Lisa; John Koffman and wife Rebecca; Kathryn Farris and husband Christopher; Alex Ochoa and husband Cristain; great-grandchildren Ethan and Brody Claunch; Bryson and Aubrey Koffman; Charlotte and Clara Farris,other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Charles.
