John Kenneth Cataldo, a longtime resident of Beacon, NY, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home at the age of 90. He was born on July 19, 1932 in New York, NY, the son of the late Maurice Cataldo of Buchanon, NY and Mildred (Frasse) Cataldo of Cold Spring, NY. Affectionately known by his family and friends as ‘Sparky’, he was raised in Cold Spring, NY.
John served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1952-1956 and received an honorable discharge for his service. John worked for IBM, retiring from his position as a research technologist at the Thomas J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, NY after over 30 years.
On May 5, 1962 he married Margaret ‘Peggy’ Morgan, who predeceased him on May 10, 2012. He is also preceded in death by his son Christopher Cataldo of Beacon, NY (August 1, 2019), his brother Maurice Cataldo of El Sobrante, CA, his brother Robert Cataldo of Cold Spring, NY and his sister Emilia Pynnonen of Beacon, NY.
He is survived by his loving daughters Melissa Cataldo of Fishkill, NY and Susan Cataldo of Wappinger Falls, NY.
John’s wife, family, and friends were the absolute center of his life, and he loved them all very much. From an early age, he was a talented artist in a variety of mediums, and his drawings and paintings were coveted by those close to him. A culinary master along with his kitchen partner Peggy, we will miss his amazing holiday dinners and desserts, and of course his world famous “Johnny breakfasts”, served up to so many on the weekends. He loved to travel, and most enjoyed the majestic beauty of the sands, ocean, and lighthouses of Cape Cod. In his younger years he was often seen happily driving around town in his classic MGB sports convertible, a set of golf clubs casually thrown in the back seat. John remained young in spirit and young in looks until the very end.
