ODELL – John K. Odell, Sr., 83, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 after a brief illness. He was the loving husband of the late Judith (Campbell) Odell and Beverly (Jenkins) Odell. Born June 18, 1938 in Torrington; the son of the late John and Margaret (Bekasi) Odell. He graduated from Torrington high school, Class of 1956. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy, including time on the flight deck of the U.S.S. Intrepid.Raised in Torrington he spent all his summers in Litchfield at his grandparents house enjoying time at Keefe’s stables with the horses. A self taught cook he enjoyed making family dinners, especially Christmas. He participated in many town events while active with the Colebrook Senior Center. John was an avid golfer who enjoyed many rounds with his sons and friends, he also coached little league for the Town of Colebrook. His most recent enjoyment came from bird watching with his daughter Julie. John was a partner with Esker & Odell Builders and then owned and operated John Odell Builder with sons Jay and Tom. Later he joined and retired from Burlington Construction. He was an Honorary member of the Colebrook Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the American Legion in Sandisfield, MA. Also served on the Town of Colebrook Recreation Committee, Planning and Zoning and Town Democratic leaves his children, Debbie (John) Kennedy of Barkhamsted, Tom (Teresa) Odell of Colebrook, Paul (Karen) Odell of Colebrook, Julie Odell of MA; grandchildren, Serena (Tim) Brainard, Phillip (Morgan) Kennedy, Nick (Courtney) Kennedy, Angela Kennedy, Michael Odell, Maggie Odell and Wade Auclair; great grandchildren, Elyssia Weston, Lukas Brainard and Eleanor Kennedy; daughter-in-law, Claire Odell of Colebrook; siblings, Margaret “Peggy” Maule of Litchfield and Peter (Debbie) Odell of FL; many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by two sons, Michael Odell, John “Jay” K. Odell, Jr., and his brother in law Raymond Maule.
