John Joseph Kelly Jr. , 79

Watervliet John Joseph Kelly Jr. , 79,of Harvard Road Watervliet, died suddenly Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at Venice Regional Medical Center in Venice, Florida.

Born in Troy, he was the son of the late John Kelly Sr. and Helen (Maloney) Kelly and husband for 39 years of Marion E. Humphrey Kelly.

He wasa longtime resident of the Beman Park area of Troy and had resided in Watervliet for the past 2 years. He had wintered in Nokomis, Florida for the past 15 years and was a graduate of Catholic Central High School class of 1944 and earned his Bachelor’s degree from Siena College.

Mr.Kelly was a paper maker- machine operator for the John A. Manning Paper Company in Green Island for the 35 years retiring in 1986.

He was a communicant of St. Paul the Apostle Church in Troy and a member of the Watervliet Lodge of Elks, the Papermakers Union and was a Navy veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific and Atlantic theatres and was in the Armed Guard.

Survivors in addition to his wife include his son, John J. Kelly, III of Watervliet; his brother-in-law, Philip P. Murphy of Saratoga Springs and a niece and a nephew. He was predeceased by his sister, Helenmarie K. Murphy.
