John Joseph Herba, 89, of Rockledge, Florida, passed away on January 23, 2022. 

 

John was born on July 24, 1932, on Long Island, New York.  John graduated from East Islip High School, class of 1950 and from Farmingdale State College with an electrical engineering degree in 1954.  Following college graduation, John joined Grumman Aerospace, later Northrop Grumman.  John was an integral member of the engineering team that developed the Lunar Exploration Module (LEM). Later in his career, he was involved with Grumman in the development of the Joint Stars Program. His career at Northrop Grumman as an aerospace engineer spanned over 43 years.

 

He was an avid boater and spent countless hours on the Great South Bay of Long Island and then the Indian River adjacent to his home in Rockledge, Florida.

John is survived by his children, Cathy Rossi, Laura Herba and Jack Herba, and his three grandchildren, Stephen Rossi, Morgan Rossi and Lauren Herba, his son-in-law Mike Rossi and his daughter-in-law, Sandy Herba.  John was predeceased by his loving wife of 57 years, Mary Jane Herba and his beloved son Bruce Herba.

 

John guided his family with his relentless positive attitude and sunny disposition.  He will be dearly missed.
