John Joseph Corpus Sr., 89, of Spring Valley, died Friday evening, December 23, 2011 at the Illinois Veteran’s Home in LaSalle.
Mr. Corpus was born June 6, 1922 in Spring Valley to George and Bridget (Fitzpatrick) Corpus. He attended Spring Valley Grade Schools. He married Gloria M. Suarez on September 4, 1947 at St. Mary’s Church in DePue. Mr. Corpus was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II aboard the USS Sangamon. He worked as a journeyman lineman for Illinois Power Co. for 39 years. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Spring Valley, West End Gun Club, Music Parents Association for Hall High School, Men’s Association of St. Bede and the IBEW.
Survivors include his children, Diane (Joseph) Janz of LaSalle, John Corpus Jr. of Spring Valley, James (Janice) Corpus of Peoria and Anthony (Chris) Corpus of Bloomington; four grandchildren, Elizabeth (Andrew) Wardinski of Geneva, Joseph (Mechelle) Janz of Davenport, IA, Daniel (Stefani) Corpus of Peoria and Keith Corpus of Chicago and four great-grandchildren, Mackenna and Parker Janz of Davenport, IA, Matthew Wardinski of Geneva and Haven Heaton of Peoria.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gloria on January 14, 2010; a daughter in infancy; five brothers, Charles, George, Bill, Frank and Raymond Corpus and five sisters, Veronica Venturi, Mary Pierski, Catherine Peradotto, Helen Ronchetti and Lillian Toscano. Pallbearers will be Joseph Janz, Daniel Corpus, Keith Corpus, Andrew Wardinski, Gerald Toovey, Kevin Toovey, Leonard Hybki, Billy Corpus and Chuck and Linda Mercier.
