John J. Burke Jr., 76, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, loving father and husband, passed away on June 24 at Imperial Point Hospital.

John was born in Poughkeepsie, New York, on November 23, 1945. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1964-1968.

John and his beloved wife, Barb, moved from New Jersey and settled in South Florida in 1980. After years of working in the fastener industry, they established their own company, Barjon Supply, Inc. In his spare time, John became an avid freshwater fisherman, lovingly known on Lake Okeechobee as the “original spook master,” referencing his favorite lure, in which his sons now will carry on that legacy. John has touched the lives of so many in the bass fishing and nut and bolt communities, and was known for his passion for family and lots of laughs. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

When not fishing, bowling, or selling nuts and bolts, John was happiest when he was with his family. John also loved the game of golf, which he began later in life.

John is survived by his wife, Barb, and five children: John (Anastasia), Steve, Jamie (Sean), Katie (Mike), and Jimmy, grandchild Jack, sister Rose (Jim) and many nieces, nephews and cousins. John was reunited with the Lord, his sister Sue, and his parents John and Rose.
