Lakeland – John Joseph Burek, Jr., 70, passed away Friday, November 29, 2013, after a battle with cancer. Mr. Burek born August 12, 1943, in Pittsburgh, PA, to John Joseph and Elizabeth “Betty” Burek. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Air Force, where he served in Berlin, Germany. Mr. Burek and his family moved to Lakeland in 1973 where he remained for the rest of his years. For much of his life, Mr. Burek was employed in the automotive industry where he served in sales. Later in life, he went to work in the communication industry where he stayed until his retirement in 2008. Mr. Burek was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved the Lord Jesus Christ and practiced his faith at St.
Mr. Burek was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elizabeth Burek; son, Joey Krutzky; wife, Dawn Burek; nephew, Donald Burek; and sister-in-law, Vicki Wilding. He is survived by his beloved wife of 29 years, Kathleen “Kathy” Wilding Burek; daughter, Diane Key, her husband, Edward and their 6 children and 4 grandchildren; daughter, Michele Reynolds, her husband, Paul and their 2 children; son, John Joseph “J.J.” Burek III, his wife, Atlantis and their 2 children; son, Mark Krutzky, his wife Amanda and their 2 children; brothers, Michael and his wife, Judy, Richard and his wife, Nancy and Joseph and his wife, Barb; and sister, Monica Supinsky and husband, Glen. Mr. Burek is also survived by his brothers-in-law, James and Larry Wilding; sister-in-law, Sheryl Beck and her husband, Don; and many nieces and nephews.
