John “Joe” Harold Marcum John “Joe” Harold Marcum, 95, passed away on February 24, 2019. He was born to John Cleveland Marcum, and Louisa (Beck) Marcum in Walnut Hill on June 18, 1923. He married Louisa Castellari on October 23, 1948, at the Parsonage in Centralia, and she survives him.

In addition to his wife Louisa of 70 years, he is also survived by a son, Jack Marcum of Centralia, Daughters April Feig and husband Bob of Centralia, Annette Holloway of Farmington, MO, Son-in-law Jay Harbin of Fernandina Beach, FL. Grandchildren, Cary Altadonna, Adam and Kristen Feig, Aaron and Teri Lynn Feig, Amber Feig, Jake Harbin, Seth and Vivian Harbin, Trevor Holloway, Isabel Holloway. Great Grandchildren, Audrey, Preston, Sienna and Ava Lynn, one brother, Stanley Marcum. He was preceded in death by his parents, eight siblings and daughter, Hope Harbin.

Joe proudly served the Army Infantry in Europe during WWII. After returning from the war, he was employed by the Illinois Central Railroad as a foreman at the Centralia car shops for almost 40 years. He was an active member of the VFW Post 2055, serving as Commander and District Commander, as well as Chaplin for many years. He also served as Knight and Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus.

He and his wife served as Kaskaskia College Ambassadors for many years and faithfully coordinated the coffee and donut gatherings at St. Mary’s Church for over 30 years. He and Louisa also delivered Meals On Wheels. Joe enjoyed music and dancing as well as his Friday Night Bowling League, golfing and working in his garden. He immensely spoiled his grandchildren and great-grandchildren by being a big kid himself.
