John Jevitz, 83, of Ottawa, formerly of Joliet, passed away April 4, 2013 at the Ottawa Pavilion.

John was born March 5, 1930 in Joliet to John and Lottie (Witczak) Jevitz. John attended St. Joseph Grade School, Joliet Township High School, Joliet Jr. College, Aurora University and Lewis University. He married Kay Lorine Klint in 1959 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Joliet and moved to Ottawa in 1968. He was a Sergeant in the Marines during the Korean War and was formerly employed at Commonwealth Edison, Northern Illinois Gas, Borg-Warner Chemicals, and GE Plastics where he retired as Manager of Human Resources in 1992.

John was active in numerous community and business affairs. He was Chairman and Chairman Emeritus of the Governing Board, Ottawa Regional Hospital and Healthcare Center; Chairman, City of Ottawa Board of Fire and Police Commission; President, Ottawa YMCA Board of Directors; President and Campaign Chairman, Ottawa United Fund; President, Illinois Valley Personnel Management Association; Vice –Chairman, American Red Cross; President, Ottawa High School Booster Club; Member of State Representative Ewing’s Legal Advisory Board; Member Deer Park Country Club Board of Directors; Member, Illinois Governor’s Grievance Panel; Member, North Central High School Evaluation Committee; Member, Governor’s Job Development Committee; Member, of Congre4ssman Phil Crane’s National Advisory Board; Member, Executive Committee, LaSalle County Republican Central Committee; Republican Precinct Committeeman; Executive Board Member, IBEW Union; Member, Illinois Valley Community College Business Education Faculty; Member, Illinois Manufacturers Association Worker’s Compensation and Industrial Relations Committee’s; Member, Ottawa Kiwanis Club; Member, Will County Old Timers Baseball Association.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Kay; two children, Dr. John Jevitz of Elmhurst and Katy (Bill) Hagman of Granite Bay, CA; four grandchildren, John Jevitz III, Jake Jevitz, Megan and Billy Hagman; two sisters, Dorothy (Reno) Sartori and Jeri (Stu) Christensen of Sarasota, FL; a brother, Gene (Donna) Jevitz of Shorewood; two sister-in laws and two brother-in-laws, Joseph & Kay Klint of Loudon, TN and Susan & Michael Costigan of Crystal Lake; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
