John J. “Pop” Marino passed away on June 4, 2011. He left this world to be with a merciful God after a long illness. He was the light of so many lives and will be missed more than words could ever say. John is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Bonnie Liszewski Marino. She always called him her “hero” and that, he truly was. His four children knew he was always there for them to offer his love and sought after opinion. He will be missed forever by Rick Marino and his companion Sandy Bauder, John Marino and his companion Christine Frankowski, Jim Marino and his wife Kathy, his daughter Vicky and her husband Scott Flaer, and his daughter in law Debi Breece Marino.

Pop was loved deeply by his grandchildren Jacqui Marino, Ashley Mercantini, Nicholas Marino, Jimmy Marino, Gabrielle Mercantini, Amanda Marino, Anastasia Marino, Katarina Marino, Maxwell Flaer, and Ava Flaer. His first great-grandchild, Ryder James Mercantini brought joy to his life and always wanted to sit on Pop’s lap. He will be sadly missed by his best friend Hank Liszewski and his wife Kate. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. John is predeceased by his parents Pete and Sophie Marino, his brother Frank Marino, and his sisters Maryanne Dean and Patricia Marino.

John served in the United States Navy for 4 years in the 1950’s aboard the USS Hunt and USS Buckley. He was the “Oil King” of the boiler room and was in charge of that operation. He was a carpenter contractor for 40 years and did framing and interior trim for many area builders. He was known as one of the best. The perfect words to describe this man who was so good to many is “Awesome, and truly one of a kind”. A huge hole will never be filled in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace.
