John “Jack” F. Lotz, Jr., age 90 of Portage, died at his home under hospice care on March 19, 2021.
He was born August 2, 1930, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of John and Agnes (McCartney) Lotz.
He attended RCA school in New York and was a radio and television engineer in the early days of television.
Jack graduated from the University of Akron with a Master’s Degree in Latin and Greek.
Jack was the original faculty member of Kalamazoo Valley Community College, where he taught electronics.
He was always learning and was humble about the vast knowledge he had. His book collection exceeded 10,000 books and he loved to collect rocks as well. Many will remember the twinkle he would get in his eye when you talked about something that interested him and he loved to tell stories to the many new people he met.
On December 28, 1949, he was united in marriage to Violet May Horst, who preceded him in death in 2011. His family includes his four sons, David A. (Sherry) Lotz, Jan A. (Shari) Lotz, John F. Lotz III, and Edward D. Lotz; four grandchildren, Kelly Ann Bambrough, Jason D. Lotz, Steven William Lotz, and Alicia Marie Dunn; and nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his fur baby Tosca “Pookie”.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and his brother Franklin Lotz.
