Born in Barker, New York, Mr. Bowen, an electrician for the county government, moved to this area in 1973 from Oakfield, New York. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, was a lifetime member of both the Edgewater-New Smyrna Beach Elks Lodge 1557 and the Moose, and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. Mr. Bowen enjoyed boating and was a hard worker who loved and took good care of his family.

Survivors include 1 daughter, Jane (Harry) Gillis; 2 sons, John F. (Andrea) Bowen, and Robert L. (Margie) Bowen; 1 grandchild, Hans Bowen; 6 sisters, Marcia Hartway, Marjorie Nesbitt, Lois Nanni, Rose Kitanik, Ruth Bowen, and Norma Waldron; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Bowen was preceded in death by his parents, John L. and Iva P. Boorom Bowen; his wife of 50 years, Dolores; and 1 sister, Iva Caton.
