John “Jack” Edward Donlon, 60, of Arlington and formerly of Belton, died Monday, November 5, at his residence.
He was born December 12, 1957, in The Bronx, New York to John and Patricia Birkenstock Donlon. He attended Our Lady of Refuge Elementary School and graduated from Mt. Saint Michael’s High School in The Bronx. He graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1980. He served in the U.S. Army.
He married Shelley Carlson in 1984 in Temple. During their marriage, they lived together in Rockland County, NY and Chapin, SC before moving back to Texas in 2008. Since 1999, he owned a light construction and handyman services company called Jack of all Trades.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Temple where he taught Sunday School, served on the Property Committee, and enjoyed many activities with the congregation. Jack was proud to be Godfather to Ian Bernes and Tanner Carlson.
Jack is survived by his loving wife, Shelley; his parents, Jack and Pat, of St. Helena Island, SC; brother, Mike Donlon (his wife Maureen) of Pearl River, NY; sister, Annmarie Bernes (her husband Raf) of Monroe, NY; nephew Ian Bernes of Monroe, NY. And he will also be greatly missed by his extended family, Krista (Carlson) and Bobby Giniewicz; Lance and Sharon Carlson; Brooke and Sandy Carlson; Clay and Kim Carlson; his nieces, nephews and grandnephew.
