John William Dytko, “Jack”, 77, of Salem, passed away Saturday (Dec. 10, 2016).  He leaves his beloved wife of nearly 50 years, Nancy (LaBounty) Dytko; three daughters, Kristie D. Leonard of Marlborough, Heather Hitchcock (and husband, Reed) of Fairfax, VA and Jennifer Kujawski (and husband, Mark) of Northport, NY; six grandchildren, Grace and Scotty Leonard, Emma and Mary Hitchcock and Sophia and Quinn Kujawski; his brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Debra Dytko of Salem; and many extended family members and friends.  He was predeceased by his parents, John Joseph and Mary (Hracyk) Dytko.   Only short of his family, Jack’s greatest love was the Town of Salem – where he lived the vast majority of his years to the fullest.  While still attending Norwich Free Academy (Class of 1957), Jack became a Charter Member of the Gardner Lake Vol. Fire Co. and later served as an ambulance driver for many years.  Over the years, Mr. Dytko taught countless students at the Salem School.   He served many terms as both the Salem Town Clerk and Tax Collector in addition to being a member of the Board of Assessors.  Jack had also been a Deputy Sheriff for New London County for a number of years.
