John J. Pisaro, 90, of Bethlehem, passed away July 5, 2010 at home after a long and very courageous battle with Lung Cancer. John was a devoted husband to Eleanor (Allen) Pisaro for 33 years. He was born in Steelton, PA to the late Joseph and Rose (Bresnak) Pisaro.
A decorated veteran, John was a Sgt. in the U. S .Army, fighting bravely in the Philippines and Saipan during WWII. John worked hard his whole life. Beginning at age 16, John would go to work at Pierce Arrow Garage where he would grease cars. John worked for the Bethlehem Steel Co. for more than 40 years rising to the position of General Foreman of the Saucon Mills. In 1980, John placed second out of 7,000 candidates in the Bethlehem Steel Corporation’s prestigious efficiency improvement award, “Take It To The Top.”
John served his community for many years becoming involved in numerous veterans and social clubs. During retirement, John mastered the game of golf, became an avid gardener, and became an accomplished wood worker making beautiful furniture and sculptures for his home- his pride and joy.
A child of the Great Depression, a soldier during WWII, a hard working steel worker, John was a self made man who learned from his mistakes. He was a good friend and neighbor to many.
John is survived by his wife, Eleanor who was completely devoted to John throughout their marriage and who selflessly cared for him at home during his illness, daughters Christine and her husband James of Ware, MA, Susan and her husband Joseph of Norwalk, CT, Son Jon and his wife Stella of Bethlehem, Grandchildren: Gary, Andrea, Justin, Michele, Nancy, Alison, and Joseph, 4 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by daughter Nancy, step-son Fred, granddaughter Dana, sisters, Violet Febert and Lillian Hoppes.
