Not wishing to overstay his welcome, John Morgan Horne, 71, of Allentown, took his leave on May 15, 2018, as a result of lung cancer. He was the beloved husband of Diane L. (Clause) Horne, with whom he shared 48 years of marriage.
Born in Bethlehem, he was the son of the late Edward and Daisy Horne. John earned an undergraduate degree in accounting from Villanova University, a masters degree in finance from Lehigh University, and a certificate in health care administration from New York University. He began his professional career with the New York City office of the accounting firm of Coopers & Lybrand CPAs, then co-founded and managed, with his beloved wife, New Designs International, a woman’s fashion accessories design and development firm in New York City.
During their 20 year residency in New York, John also served as Treasurer of the Suffolk County, NY, affiliate of Habitat for Humanity, was active with the Bread of Life soup kitchen / food pantry in Huntington, NY, and was also a Deacon of the Old First Presbyterian Church of Huntington. Upon retirement, John and Diane moved to Beaufort, SC, where John founded and directed The Habersham Trust, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation dedicated to providing social services to the needy in the Beaufort community. He also served as an active board member of Alzheimer’s Family Services of Beaufort County. In 2005, John and Diane happily returned to the Lehigh Valley to be closer to family and old friends, and where John pursued his interest in creative writing.
Survivors: wife Diane; brothers Edward, Jr., of Dunkirk, MD, and Delroy of Placerville, CA; several nieces and nephews.
