John J. Hood, III, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died peacefully in his sleep on February 27, 2004, in San Antonio. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, son of John Jackson Hood, Jr. and Florence Emma Scheriff. In 1939 he married Edith Christine Coster. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1945. Tired of battling winters in the northeast and desiring a change in their lives, John and Edith moved to Texas early in 1950 and settled in Boerne, where they lived for more that 53 years. As a young man, John was a skilled woodworker and produced several items of fine furniture which he gave to family members and friends. He worked as a railroad car inspector, house painter, salesman, and file clerk for the Air Force. He and Edith were instrumental in creation of the Rainbow Center in Boerne, where they often volunteered to deliver meals to homes. Preceded in death by a Granddaughter, Katherine Beckett Hood, John is survived by Wife, Edith; Sons, Dell and wife Gerin of Wimberly, and Keith and wife Jean of San Antonio; Grandchildren, Jennifer C. Hood of Grand Prarie, TX, Susan Hulett and her husband, Skip, Sarah Horvath and her husband, Mike, Robert Appel and his wife, Linda; Great Grandchildren, Jimmy, Holly, and Andrew Hulett, Emma and Steven Horvath, and Amber and Alex Appel.
