Lakeland – John Hickey, 86, passed away Sunday, October 12, 2014, as a result of natural causes.
Mr. Hickey was born February 28, 1928 in Keokuk, Iowa. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army Air Corps. He earned an Advanced Education Degree, and he also was a member of Phi Delta Kappa Honor Society. Mr. Hickey was most recently employed by the Warrensburg-Latham school district in Illinois, where he served as both an educator and administrator. He also coached basketball, track, and cross country. Mr. Hickey retired after a 37 year career in education. He was an enthusiastic and avid runner and ran many races with his wife Erma. He and his wife moved to Lakeland in 2004 from Port Charlotte.
Mr. Hickey is survived by his wife of 66 years, Erma Hickey; sons, Mike (Georgeanne) Hickey and Todd Hickey; daughters, Rhonda (Terry) Fosser, Debbie (Tom) Seitz, and Jolynn (Paul) Harmon; 8 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.
