John Hermann Huntington was a scientist-priest who had a passion for truth. After earning his doctorate in physical chemistry from Brown University, John’s career as a scientist culminated in his co-founding of Astron Research and Engineering in Sunnyvale, California. After closing Astron, John found God at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in San Jose, California.
He attended the Berkeley School of Theology in Berkeley, California, where he studied to become an ordained priest in the Episcopal Church. After his ordination, he accepted a position as rector of Saint Andrews Episcopal Church in Cripple Creek, Colorado, where he served until moving to Deale, Maryland. Several years after moving to Deale, he converted to Catholicism and moved to Deming, New Mexico. John played as hard as he worked. He flew airplanes, read voraciously, played tennis and golf, hunted and fished, sailed boats, and loved to party with his family and friends. He excelled at having a good time just as he excelled at quantum mechanics.
John is survived by his wife, Judith, best friend, business partner, and life partner in all things for 48 years; 2 brothers, Richard Huntington (1.3.4.4.2.4.8.4.1.1.1) and James Huntington (1.3.4.4.2.4.8.4.1.1.4); sons, Charles Huntington (1.3.4.4.2.4.8.4.1.1.2.1), James Huntington (1.3.4.4.2.4.8.4.1.1.2.2), and Michael Huntington (1.3.4.4.2.4.8.4.1.1.2.3); step-daughters, Kyle and Deirdre and adopted-daughter, Birgitta. As well as grandchildren, friends, colleagues, and many others he loved.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Morgan Gurdon and Maria Luise (Burian) Huntington; a brother, Charles Morgan Huntington and a grandson, Philip Holub.
